Nobleboro, founded in 1788, is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,626 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.3 square miles (60 km2), of which, 19.0 square miles (49 km2) of it is land and 4.3 square miles (11 km2) of it (18.39%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,626 people, 678 households, and 465 families residing in the town. The population density was 85.4 people per square mile (33.0/km²). There were 1,092 housing units at an average density of 57.4 per square mile (22.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.59% White, 0.12% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.49% of the population.

There were 678 households out of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the town the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $39,805, and the median income for a family was $46,838. Males had a median income of $32,104 versus $24,107 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,373. About 5.4% of families and 7.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.2% of those under age 18 and 9.2% of those age 65 or over.
