- Pan American Medical Students' Association (PAMSA)
-
PAMSA (acronym for the Pan American Medical Students' Association) is one of the five Regions of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA). PAMSA gathers medical students from the Western Hemisphere and was created in 2002 after the merging of the North American region (USA,Canada and Mexico) with the former Caribbean and Latin American Medical Students' Association (CLAMSA).
CLAMSA was formed in March 2001 during the 48th March Meeting (General Assembly) of the IFMSA at the Hotel Dolmen in St. Paul's Bay, Qawra, Malta. The formation of CLAMSA was steered by National Member Organizations (NMOs) from the Caribbean and Latin America represented at the General Assembly. Some of the founding member countries of CLAMSA in 2001 included: Brazil, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama.
In 2010, IFMSA represented 16 countries from the Americas, and 19 NMOs. PAMSA now spreads over North, Central, South America and the Caribbean and brings together the students of those 19 NMOs.
