Geography
Westwood is located at coor dms|38|28|57|N|82|40|41|W|city (38.482422, -82.678028)GR|1.
According to the
United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 4.0square mile s (10.3km² ), of which, 3.9 square miles (10.1 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (2.26%) is water. The majority of the topographical area known as Westwood is located on an unusually flat hilltop (although a portion of the community is located in the flat valley that lies along Hood's Creek) just west of the Ashland city limits, hence the name Westwood. The geographical nature of the land in which Westwood is located is flat, as mentioned before, most definitely created by the ancient Teays River. The course of the river was altered due to Glacial formations around two million years ago. It resulted in the flat hill tops common in Boyd and Greenup Counties, not common to the eastern Kentucky landscape of steep ridges and narrow valleys.
