Charts

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums Chart that year with over 702,000 copies sold and 507,000 sold in the second week also finishing the year as the fifth best-selling album of 2002 with US sales of 3.4 million, despite only two months of release. As of September 19, 2010, it has sold more than 4,750,000 albums.[3] It debuted at #1 on the Canadian Albums Chart with sales of 44,500 copies.[4] It also reached #1 on the UK Compilations Chart Australian ARIAnet Albums Chart. It featured Eminem's worldwide chart-topping single, "Lose Yourself".

More Music from...

It also spawned a follow up soundtrack, More Music from 8 Mile, consisting of songs that appear in 8 Mile that were current singles during the film's time setting of 1995. One of the songs was performed by Tupac Shakur, who would be the subject of a documentary with a soundtrack produced by Eminem, who also produced a posthumous album by Tupac.

There were also four songs by the Wu-Tang Clan or its members, and two songs by Mobb Deep, which eventually signed to G-Unit Records, headed by Shady/Aftermath artist 50 Cent.

Other information

The album was also made in a clean edition removing most of the strong profanity and violent content.

Both Jay-Z and Nas, at the time feuding with each other, appeared on the soundtrack. Nas contributed "U Wanna Be Me", a diss towards Jay-Z.
