Cleghorn is a city in Cherokee County, Iowa, United States. The population was 250 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Cleghorn is located at 42°48′46″N 95°42′43″W / 42.81278°N 95.71194°W / 42.81278; -95.71194 (42.812680, -95.711997)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 250 people, 103 households, and 76 families residing in the city. The population density was 730.3 people per square mile (283.9/km²). There were 115 housing units at an average density of 335.9 per square mile (130.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.

There were 103 households out of which 24.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.9% were married couples living together, 3.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $39,167, and the median income for a family was $47,500. Males had a median income of $31,094 versus $22,656 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,886. About 4.8% of families and 4.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under the age of eighteen and 12.7% of those sixty five or over.
