Sarahan (Hindi: सराहन) is small town in Himachal Pradesh of India. It is the site of famous Bhimakali temple, dedicated to the mother goddess Bhimakali, presiding deity of the rulers of the former Bushahr State. The temple is situated about 180 kilometers from Shimla and is one of 51 Shakti Peethas. The town is known as the gateway of Kinnaur.[1] Seven kilometers below Sarahan is the river Satluj. Sarahan is identified with the Sonitpur mentioned in Puranas.[2]

Sarahan is located at 31°31′N 77°48′E / 31.52°N 77.80°E / 31.52; 77.80.[3] It has an average elevation of 2,313 metres (7,589 feet).

Transport

Sarahan is 564 kilometers from New Delhi and 174 kilometers from Shimla. The best way to go to Sarahan is to travel by train to Kalka or by air to Chandigarh and then travel by road to Sarahan. Taxis and jeeps can be hired to reach to Sarahan. Bus services are also available from Shimla. It takes approximately 6 hours by road to reach Sarahan from Shimla.
