Real Madrid C.F. in Europe

Real Madrid C.F. in Europe

Real Madrid C.F. in Europe is an article about Real Madrid and their record in Europe football competitions. They are the most winner of Europe, also they are only team to play the most times in European Cup/UEFA Champions League than other team in Europe. They have won the European Cup/UEFA Champions League 9 times, which is more than any other club, for both trophies. They have won the UEFA Cup 2 times in row. They have also won the European Super Cup on one occasions, and the Copa Latina on two occasions.

History

Copa Latina

In 1949, the football federations of Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal, came together and launched their own club competition. European clubs could not afford hefty travel costs so the Copa Latina was staged at the end of every season in a single host country. The competition featured two semi-finals, a third place play-off and a final. As La Liga champions in 1955, Real Madrid represented Spain in the inaugural competition. They beat OS Belenenses 2-0 in their semi-final at Parc des Princes in Paris, before beating Reims 2-0 in the final at the Parc des Princes. Real Madrid also played in and won the 1957 competition in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid, beating AC Milan 5-1 in the semi-final and then SL Benfica 1-0 in the final.
