Chintalapudi (Telugu: చింతలపూడి) is a town in Andhra Pradesh, India, and headquarters for Chintalapudi Taluk (administrative division) in West Godavari district. Chintalapudi Taluk is one of the biggest taluks in Andhra Pradesh. Chintalapudi, along with Eluru, is one of the main trading centers for nearby hamlets and smaller villages. Chintalapudi is one of the oldest settlements based on scriptures and excavations. Chintalapudi has a population of 67,100 according to the 2001 census.

Geography

Chintalapudi is 50 km from Eluru, 30 km from Sathupalli and 40 km from Jangareddyudem. Velagalapalli is 8 km from Chintalapudi.Thimmyreddy palli is 10 km, Pothunuru is 7 km from Chintalapudi. Makkina Vari Gudem, known for its tobacco cultivation, is 18 km from Chintalapudi. Nagireddy Gudem is 10 km from Chintalapudi and has a water dam. Chintalapudi has a vast area of forest land which starts from the Velgalapalli crossroad and stretches to Chintalapudi.

Economy

Chintalapudi is a residential and business place for medium, small and marginal farm owners and farm hands. Agriculture is the main livelihood. Most of the area is semi-arid and depends on rain water. Recently there is some progress installing lift-water irrigation.

The main crops grown in the area include mango, cashew, batavian, sapota, oil palm, sesame, corn, banana, papaya, red sandalwood, rice, and vegetables. Forst products include teak wood, rose wood and medicinal plants.

• Sri Jai Hanuman Temple is located at far end of Chintalapudi, but is still popular. The grounds also act as a picnic spot. There is also a Lord Rama temple.

• Bandi Gangadhara Venkata Ramarao was a landlord and awarded best agriculturist in West Godavari in 1960. He donated lands to poor people who are out for help. He is the founder donor of Vishwanath ashram.
• Katakam Guravaiah was an agriculturist who pioneered Best Practices in Agriculture. His forte' was mango cultivation and commercial crops. He believed in organic cultivation with minimal damage to the Agricultural lands. He funded AICCI. He build a Hanuman mandir nearby.
• Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao is a politician, ex-MLA and Minister from West Godavari and Andhra Pradesh. He was in the TDP and is now in the PRP. He is playing a vital role in National Level now.
• Er. Katakam Surya Prakash Rao was the first engineer from the region, and a pioneer in the telecom revolution along with Rajiv Gandhi and Sam Pitroda. He is still contributing to his Native region in several ways.
• Gowtam Kumar Chitluri is a successful financial analyst that revolutionized finance.
• Maddala Rajesh Kumar is a politician, and the MLA of Chintalapudi from 2009 to date. He has completed his Masters of With an Engineering degree he worked as a software engineer. He is the youngest MLA in the 13th assembly at the age of 28.
• Satyanarayana Mandalapu is a politician from Chinthalapudi. During his tenure as Samiti president, he concentrated on infrastructure such as road and facilities like drinking water and irrigation ponds. He is well known for his charitable works and interest in social justice. The Eluru Club honored Satyanarayana by unanimously electing him as the president of the club.
