Like almost all communities in India, almost all of the surnames come from the village that they lived in. The members of the Raju caste have names derived from their ancestral town of origin. The most commonly used suffixes to every settlement and their meanin is given.

#-pur,-puri,-pura,-puram,-pore (Sanskrit) "town" (walled city -- may also mean a city with a citadel or palace). E.g., Kanpur, Thiruvananthapuram. Also Singapore!
#-ur,-oor,-uru,-ore (Tamil/Kannada/Telugu). "village"/"town". E.g., Kadambur, Bangalore, Coonoor.
#-wada,-wara "House". E.g., Bhilwada, Teliwara.This is a list of the towns. Normally in Andhra Pradesh, from the town name an I, -pati, or Raju are added to the town name to come up with the family name. For example a person from Cheruku"wada", Pakala"padu" or Vegi"vada" would have the family names of Cherukur"i", Pakala"pati" and Vegi"raju".
