next_route=41State Route 40 is a 20-mile long route in the northeastern part of the state. The western terminus of the route is at its junction with State Route 35 near Scottsboro. The eastern terminus of the route is at its junction with State Route 117 at Hammondville, just north of the junction of State Route 117 with Interstate 59.
Route description
From its origin south of Scottsboro, State Route 40 travels across the base of
Lookout Mountain . The narrow, twisty roadway continues until the route reaches Dutton in western DeKalb County. East of Dutton, the roadway has fewer curves as it continues across the county. State Route 40 serves as a connecting route between Scottsboro and northbound Interstate 59 as it leads towardsChattanooga, Tennessee .Counties traversed
