State Route 71 is a 30-mile long route in Jackson County in the northeastern corner of the state. The southern terminus of the route is at its junction with State Route 35 near Section. The route continues until it reaches the Georgia state line. Upon entering the Peach State, the route continues as Georgia State Route 136.

Route description

The southern origin of State Route 71 is near the point where State Route 35 crosses the Tennessee River. As the route leads northeastwardly from Section, it travels along a two-lane roadway that leads through rural areas of Jackson County. After crossing State Route 40 west of Henagar, State Route 71 begins its ascent into the foothills of Lookout Mountain. From there, the roadway has numerous curves as it passes through Flat Rock and Higdon and continues to the Georgia state line.
