state highway inAlabama . State Route 73 was created in the 1970s as a spur from State Route 71 in Higdon north to Jackson County Road 90 in Bryant on top of Sand Mountain. SR-73 was extended in the 1980s north to theTennessee state line to connect to newly-designated State Route 377, which ascends Sand Mountain to end at State Route 156 east ofSouth Pittsburg, Tennessee .An earlier State Route 73 extended from U.S. Highway 278 and State Route 74, near Piedmont, north to U.S. Highway 411 and State Route 25. Serving the unincorporated communities of Spring Garden and Rock Run, the highway was turned back to Cherokee and Calhoun Counties to maintain as County Road 29.
