The Mount Margaret Road Board was gazetted in 1906. It absorbed the Mount Morgans municipality in 1913, and in 1925 received some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers. In 1950 it was renamed Laverton, and on 1 July 1961, it became a
