The Shire of Exmouth is a Local Government Area in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, about convert|1000|km|mi|0 north of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of convert|6503|km2|sqmi|0, and its seat of government is the town of Exmouth.

History

Exmouth was initially managed by the Shire of Carnarvon and its precedent bodies. The Shire of Exmouth was formed on 1 January 1964, initially with 5 members. [WA Electoral Commission, "Municipality Boundary Amendments Register" (release 2.0), 31 May 2003.]
