public high school located in Clark County, in the city ofCamas, Washington . The current principal is Mr. Steve Marshall. It has a grade span of 9th through 12th, and contains a total of 1,679 students as of October 2006. It is operated by theCamas School District and includes a compliment of 84 classroom teachers, as well as a support staff of close to 100.Demographics
Camas High School (abbreviated as CHS) contains 53.1% male students, and 46.9% female students. Student ethnicity is as follows: 58.1% Caucasian, 3.2%
Hispanic , 1.8%African American , 55.2% Asian, 11.3% Native American/Alaskan Native . The student to teacher ratio is 19:1, with teachers on average having 11.4 years of teaching experience. The percentage of teachers with at least amaster's degree is 71.4%. The dropout rate as of October 2006 is 3.7%, with a 81.5% on-time graduation rate as of the 2006-2007 school year. As of the 2006-2007 year, 9.9% of students were enrolled in some sort ofspecial education program (ex: Freshman Academy).Academics
CHS hosts a total of 156 total classes, as well as close to 15 different special education classes. The majority of classes taken are elective, especially in Junior and Senior year, where all but two classes are optional.
All students are required to take 4 years of American English, 2 years of Science, 2 years of Mathematics, as well as a Fine Art class, an Occupational class, and a Physical Education class. Also, Freshman are required to take Washington State History, Freshman Focus, an orientation class for incoming Freshman, and Freshman PE and Health, unless they're in the school's Magnet program, where they are able to take PE, Health, and Washington State History independently, but are able to skip Freshman Focus.
CHS also hosts programs such as Advanced Placement (AP) classes, as well as the ability to take advanced classes at the nearby Clark College through taking such exams as Running Start, which when completed, will provide college money and credit for students.
Also supported is the
Senior Project , which is a program completed by seniors in which students find creative and useful ways to help the community and/or people in need. It is currently a required project, and failure to complete the Senior Project will result in failure to graduate, as well as the student being held back another year.In addition, the Camas Papermakers were the number one most unusual high school mascot on the

Camas High School supports a large variety of sports, often competing with neighboring schools, or schools within Washington. Several included are common, such as Boys and Girls
Basketball ,Football ,Baseball ,Softball , Boys and GirlsGolf , Boys and GirlsTennis ,Track and Field , and Boys and GirlsSoccer . Also, a little known fact is that they have a killer crosscountry team. Camas is a well-known competitor, and has been participating since the early 1920s. Their team name is the Papermakers, and their mascot is a giant paper-making machine, which is in honor of the town's main industry, the production of paper at the local paper mill. CHS is well-known for their academics and athletics. In the 2005-2006 sport seasons, both the girls and boys soccer teams claimed state soccer titles, winning the 3A division.Football at Camas High is very important. League Champs the last couple years and even making it to playoff games. Coach John Eagle runs the football program with as iron fist and it pays off with a great team.Extracurricular Activities
Besides sports, CHS also supports various clubs and non-sporting teams. Some major clubs include
Key Club International , DECA, theNational Honor Society ,Mock Trial , and the most recent addition,Science Olympiad . Camas High School also operates school programs, such as yearbook, the Camasonian (the school newspaper), the school band, and various plays, with such shows as "Oklahoma! " .Sources
