Daikon-island Elevation 42 m (138 ft) Location Location Japan Coordinates 35°29′46″N 133°10′16″E / 35.496°N 133.171°E Daikon Island (大根島 Daikon-jima ) is an island made of basalt and is in Nakaumi that is the brackish lake located between Tottori and Shimane prefectures in Japan. It is currently part of Matsue, Shimane prefecture, Japan. Daikon-island is also a small volcano called Daikon-island volcano. Its old Japanese name was "Tako-shima" that means "Octopus-island". There are lava tubes in Daikon-island. The ginseng and the peony cultivation have been active in Daikon-island since the Edo period.
