John Bailey, A.S.C. (born
August 10 ,1942 ) is Americancinematographer andfilm director .Born in
Moberly, Missouri , Bailey attendedSanta Clara University , then transferred toLoyola University . During his junior year he studied German language and culture at theUniversity of Vienna , where he developed an appreciation for theFrench New Wave [ [http://www.cinematographers.nl/PaginasDoPh/bailey.htm John Bailey at the Encyclopedia of Cinematographers] ] . He spent eleven years apprenticing as a crew member under the likes ofVilmos Zsigmond andNéstor Almendros , and worked on such films as "Two-Lane Blacktop ", "The Late Show", "3 Women", "Winter Kills ", and "Days of Heaven ". He earned his first two credits as a director of photography for "Ordinary People " and "American Gigolo " in 1980.In 1985, Bailey shared the
Cannes Film Festival Best Artistic Contribution Award withEiko Ishioka andPhilip Glass for "".
