In the 2006 elections to the state assembly, Indrajit Tangi of CPI won the Indpur seat, reserved for scheduled castes, defeating his nearest rival Gour Chandra Lohar of BJP. Kirti Bagdi of CPI defeated Madan Bouri of AITC in 2001 and Bibekananda Layek of INC in 1996. Madan Bauri of CPI defeated Shib Sankar Mondal of INC in 1991, and Binode Behari Maji of INC in 1987 and 1982.
