In the 2001 census, Indpur community development bloc had a total population of 137,800 of which 70,876 were males and 66,924 were females. In the 2006 elections to the state assembly, Indrajit Tangi of CPI won the Indpur seat, reserved for scheduled castes, defeating his nearest rival Gour Chandra Lohar of BJP. Kirti Bagdi of CPI defeated Madan Bouri of AITC in 2001 and Bibekananda Layek of INC in 1996. Madan Bauri of CPI defeated Shib Sankar Mondal of INC in 1991, and Binode Behari Maji of INC in 1987 and 1982. Binode Behari Maji representing Janata Party won the seat in 1977 defeating Radharaman Moi of BBC. [cite web

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in the West Bengal, Indpur will cease to be an assembly constituency.
