Chorley Rugby Union Club was founded in 1973 and initially played their matches on the playing fields of Astley Park. Since there was no club house in the early days the team played from the Prince of Wales pub, near the town's covered market. Although the pub offered good post match refreshments, the changing facilities were not ideal and the club's only viable option was move to a site of its own.

In 1981 the Club secured on an area of land off Chancery Road, situated on the edge of the freshly constructed Astley Village estate. Plans were made and work started on the clubhouse on 19 June 1982, the occasion was marked by a turf cutting ceremony.

The club currently runs 2 senior teams, the 1st XV playing in RFU North Lancs 2 division. The also have a newly formed mini's section. The club emblem is derived from the Chorley Borough coat of arms and the team colours are Black and White hoops.

Training nights are Tuesday and Thursday between 7pm and 9pm.
