As well as Reading and Basingstoke, it covers West Berkshire, including Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford, Wokingham, Bracknell, much of North Hampshire, including Bramley, Hook and Tadley, a part of southern Oxfordshire, including Henley on Thames, and even a small portion of Buckinghamshire.

RG3 was recoded in January 1995 because of the rise in population in West Reading, and is now RG30 and RG31.Royal Mail, "Postcode Update 18", (1995)]
