History

The Dundela Football Club was formed in 1895 from employees of a local dairy owned by the Agnew family and members of a local harriers' club.[citation needed] Its greatest achievement to date came in April 1955, when it defeated the mighty Glenavon by three goals to nil at Windsor Park, Belfast in the final of the Irish Cup. Dundela's darkest hour occurred on August 25, 1995, when team captain, Michael Goddard died during a game at Stangmore Park, home of Dungannon Swifts, after being struck on the chest with the ball. The club's latest success was a Steel & Sons Cup win in December 2007. Dundela's local rivals are Harland & Wolff Welders F.C..

Wilgar Park

Wilgar Park has been the home ground of Dundela F.C. since 1900. The park lies in the heartland of east Belfast, in a suburb named Strandtown. Its capacity is 2,500. The venue is nicknamed "The Hen Run". It is currently undergoing a facelift, with a new perimeter wooden fence, new concrete dugouts, two new blocks of seating (under the covered terrace) and a new toilet block with disabled access in and out of the ground being installed. In the long term, the 'muddy patch' above the pitch on the top of the grassy bank on the south side will hopefully have new apartments built on it (once the land gets sold), the stand and ProKick gym behind it will be knocked down and a new stand with restaurant and viewing lounge will be added, along with new premises for ProKick.
