Maraimalai Nagar (Tamil: மறைமலைநகர்) is a suburb of the southern Indian city of Chennai. Maraimalai Nagar and its surrounding areas are referred to as "New Chennai" by the media, due to recent industrial development around this area. It is a Satellite town developed by CMDA in the Year 1980. Before that it was a forest land. This Town is formed and named as Maraimalai Nagar for the remembrance of Maraimalai Adigalar, a modern age tamil poet. Many heavy industries are located in Maraimalai Nagar. The Ford India and BMW car factories is located within a mile of Maraimalai Nagar and the Indian software giant Infosys also has an office within eight kilometers of Maraimalai Nagar.Also SRM university has its main campus in potheri. http://municipality.tn.gov.in/Maraimalainagar/

Maraimalai Nagar Municipality comprises Kattankulathur, Potheri, Thirukatchur and Peramanur villages and was constituted as Third grade Municipality in 2004. In 2010, it is upgraded as Special Grade Municipality. The town is divided in to 21 wards. The extent of Municipal Area is 58.08 km2. Maraimalai Nagar is also very near to Oragadam - a new investment destination near Chennai.

Maraimalai Nagar is the Head quarters town of Maraimalai Nagar taluk in Kancheepuram district. Maraimalai Nagar town is located in the south direction at a distance of 40 km from chennai. It is situated at 12'41'30" latitude and 74'58'00" longitude and 28m elevated from M.S.L.

Maraimalai Nagar has the location advantage in terms of transportation net work. The town is well connected by rail and road, Chennai - Dindigul National Highway No.45 passes through the Town. Chennai-Trichy Broad-gauge railway lines passes through the town.

Acharapakkam Town and Melmaruvathur Temple town lies 20Km and 15 km south of the Town. Chengalpattu Town is 25Km on the northern side from Madurantakam, Cheyyur Town lies 25 km east of the town and Madurantakam, Cheyyur Road joins with the Chennai - Pondy East coast Road.
