Students from Guttenberg attend the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Guttenberg Public School District.[3]
As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,549 students and 149 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 17.11.[2]
The school was the 296th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 322 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2010 cover story on the state's "Top Public High Schools", after being ranked 294th in 2008 out of 316 schools.[4] The school was ranked 285th in the magazine's September 2006 issue, which surveyed 316 schools across the state.[5]

Awards and recognition
North Bergen High School was recognized as a "Benchmark Public High School for Academic Achievement" by the Business Coalition for Education Excellence, for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.[6][7][8]
Athletics
North Bergen High School is home to the Bruins Stadium located in James J. Braddock Park serves as the home field for the Track, Football and Soccer teams. The Tennis Courts at James J. Braddock Park serve as the home courts. N.B.H.S gymnasium serves as the home field for other sports. The Bruins compete in the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association (HCIAA), which includes private and parochial high schools in Hudson County and operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).[9][10]

The Bruins Cross Country 2007 season came with a surprising third place finish at the NJSIAA state sectional after many years without placing and qualifying.[citation needed]
North Bergen Boys' Tennis team came in 3rd place in the HCIAA finals after a 4–1 loss against their arch rival the Bayonne Bees. The 1st doubles team in the Boys Tennis team were recognized as the top 1st Doubles team in Hudson County. During the 2006 season the boys tennis team defeated Bayonne High School for the first time in 15 years and during the 2007 season NBHS beat Bayonne again (3–2).[citation needed]
North Bergen Bowling team was a top ten team in New Jersey in 2009, winning several tournaments and was a county champion for only the fourth time in school history (1974, 1998, 2002), they're one of the more consistent teams in the county having a winning record every year since 1992.[citation needed]
On March 5, 2007, the boys' basketball team played in the North I, Group IV state championship, falling to Passaic County Technical Institute by 86–85 in overtime, in a game played at Wayne Valley High School.[11][12]
The football team won the North I Group IV state championship in 1977, 1978, 1984, 1988, 1990 and 1997.[13]
