CREATE Charter High School is a four-year public high school that operates under a charter granted by the New Jersey Commissioner of Education. The school acts independently of the Jersey City Public Schools. The school opened in September 2001. CREATE Charter High School is a public school open to all students on a space-available basis. The school also has a middle school, CREATE Charter Middle School,and is the only high school in the county to do so.
The school is run by Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipski.
Athletics
CREATE competes in the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association (HCIAA), which includes 22 private and parochial high schools in Hudson County. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).[1]
The boys basketball team won the Central, Group I state sectional championship with an 82-65 win over Asbury Park High School in the tournament final.[2]
*The school is scheduled to close permanently on June 30, 2010. The state has not renewed the school's charter. There was no sports program its final year because the county suspended the school due to improper activity.
