People who are currently active in politics (and the parties of which they are currently members) are in bold. The parties of which these people have been members are listed in chronological order.

"Right" refers to a politician who was member of the "Historical Right" (also named "Liberal Conservatives") of Camillo Benso di Cavour and Bettino Ricasoli, "Left" to one who was member of the "Historical Left" (also named "Democrats") of Agostino Depretis and Francesco Crispi, "Lib" to the "Liberals" led by Giovanni Giolitti and Giuseppe Zanardelli, "Lib-Con" to the so-called "Liberal-Conservatives" whose leader was Sidney Sonnino, "Rad" to the old "Radical Party" of Felice Cavallotti and Francesco Saverio Nitti.

"Indep" means that this politician is not affiliated to any party and acts in the political arena as an Independent. Riccardo Illy was President of Friuli-Venezia Giulia for The Union, despite not being a member of any party. Rita Levi-Montalcini is a senator for life, usually voting with the centre-left.
