Western Australia n capital city of Perth, about convert|5|km|mi|1 west of Perth'scentral business district and extending to theIndian Ocean at City Beach. The Town covers an area of convert|22.0|km2|sqmi|1 and has a population of 23,753 (2006). It was originally part of theCity of Perth before the restructuring by the Western Australian State Government in 1994. The Town was most probably named after the University town ofCambridge in theUnited Kingdom .History
Historically the area was part of the Nedlands municipality, gazetted in 1901, which was absorbed into the
City of Perth in 1915 after becoming unsustainable as an autonomous political entity. In 1993 the Government of Western Australia decided to split up the Local Government Area(LGA) of the City of Perth, creating three additional LGA's and retaining a smaller City of Perth. The new LGA's wereTown of Vincent , Town of Cambridge and theTown of Victoria Park .
