- Boswells of Oxford
Boswells of Oxford is the largest independent department store in
Oxford ,England . It has been trading from the same location in Broad Street since 1738, opposite Balliol College and close to the spot (marked with a cross in the middle of the road) where theOxford Martyrs were burnt at the stake. The store is somewhat traditional in style and is a well-known local shopping landmark. It also has a smaller side entrance at the north end of
Cornmarket Street .According to Boswell's own website, they were at 50 Cornmarket Street from 1738 until moving into the Broad Street premises opposite Balliol college only in 1928.
Bruce Dickinson ofIron Miaden once entered the store while on tour. Interestingly enough but contrary to popular fact, local legend has it that the band played an impromptu gig inside the department store.External links
