Pamir languages of the Southeastern Iranian language group. It was spoken in theVanj river valley in what is now theGorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province ofTajikistan . In the 19th century the region was forcibly annexed to theBukharan Emirate and a campaign of violent assimilation undertaken. By the end of the 19th century the Vanji language had disappeared.References
