The University
Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) was founded in line with the Malaysian government's aspiration to further improve the healthcare of Malaysians through state-of-the-art educational technology and training in medical sciences. CUCMS was established officially on 23rd October 2005 under the Private Higher Education Act 1966.
Its core mission is to serve the people of the nation through national distinction in health sciences education, research, public service and clinical care.
The establishment of CUCMS was also to close the gap between a ready-supply of qualified high achieving students against limited placements available in higher learning institutions for medical and pharmacy students. As reported in the News Straits Times, 22 February 2005, Malaysia was in need of an additional of 3,300 doctors, 700 specialists, 600 pharmacists, 500 dentists and 130,000 nurses.
The name for the medical college takes advantage of Malaysia’s first truly intelligent city and the international image of the selected township of its location, Cyberjaya.
Campus
Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences operates from its two campuses located at Jalan Teknorat 3 as the Main Campus (Main Building) and the Foundation Campus (Foundation Building) which is located within the Cyberjaya Street Mall area.
Faculties
Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences currently houses three faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Faculty of Traditional & Complementary Medicine. Within these faculties, CUCMS offers three programs: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), which is a 5 years duration course; Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), which is a 4 years duration course; Bachelor of Homeopathic Medical Science (BHMS), which is a 4 years duration course, and Foundation in Sciences (a one-year program meant as a prelude to the other degrees).
Students
As of August 2006 the university college had a student population of only around 300 students. Up to 2010, CUCMS has more than 900 students in its Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy. [1] All new students are required to reside in Cyberia Smarthomes or Cyber Heights Villa.
