The One Academy of Communication Design, Malaysia (formally known as The One Academy) is a Malaysian arts and design academy. Located in Bandar Sunway in the state of Selangor, the Academy is today one of Asia’s top institutions in art, design and creative multimedia, and its graduates have achieved success worldwide in places such as New York, San Francisco, New Zealand, Spain, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

Founders

The One Academy was founded in 1991 by Tatsun Hoi and Veronica Ho. At the time of founding, Hoi became the youngest principal at the age of 29 in the history of Malaysian Education. The academy remains under their joint management, with Hoi serving as Principal and Ho serving as Dean of Studies. Veronica Ho was a Dean's List Scholar from New York's Parsons School of Design.

Programmes

Diploma Programmes

The One Academy’s Diploma Programmes are full time 3-year courses that prepare students to be proficient in both the practically and theoretically. The Art & Design Fundamental Studies is the 1st part of the Academy’s 3-year diploma programme. It takes 2 semesters and aims to give students a strong foundation in art & design sense, history & theory of art appreciation, communication skills, computer knowledge and character building before advancing to their chosen major. The third semester is devoted to the basics of major-specific skills before students begin their majoring years in earnest, and plan and execute their own graduation campaigns.

University of Hertfordshire - The One Academy Design Degree Programme

In 2008, The One Academy partnered with the University of Hertfordshire from UK to provide the following courses, where students are able to gain international degree locally or overseas:

* Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Graphic Design & Illustration
* Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Multimedia Design

To enter this degree programme, students need to undertake the Foundation in Communication Design, which is a one-year programme. The first intake was in May 2008.
