It is located in Census Division 2. It was incorporated as a county on Jan 01, 1953, through the ammalgamation of the "Municipal District of Newell No. 28" and part of the "Municipal District of Bow Valley No. 40". The seat of the county is set in the City of Brooks.

Demographics

In 2001, the municipal district had a population of 7,137 in 2,365 dwellings, a 11.2% increase from 1996. On a surface of 5,902.63 km² it had a density of 1.2 inhabitants/km².
