Chikiodi (Kannada: ಚಿಕ್ಕೋಡಿ) is a town in Belgaum district in the state of Karnataka, India.

Geography

Chikodi is located at 16°26′N 74°36′E / 16.43°N 74.6°E / 16.43; 74.6.^[1] It has an average elevation of 683 metres (2240 feet). It is an Educational District.

Demographics

As of 2001^[update] India census,^[2] Chikodi had a population of 32,820. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Chikodi has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 79% and female literacy of 66%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. This is the second most populous taluka of Belgaum District. The Taluka is having 102 inhabited villages . It consists of rich sugar belt, as Farming is a major activity of the area. The taluka has 3 Sugar Factories in its belt. Krisna, Vedaganga, Dudhganga rivers made the land fertile and precious for agriculture. Nowadays trend of Siri Culture is in boom in this area.

Little history of Chikkodi: before 200–300 years ago, chikkodi was called as chikk - kodi (small village) where as neearer Hirekodi (big village) was bigger than chikkodi. After couple of years, chikkodi had growth due to its famous beatle leaves & was center for major roads.

Places

hh Chandrakori Ganesh Temple. Near Bus Stand. there is place called Basavanalagadde which is 3km away from Chikodi. There is a famous family is there so called dhamannavar family.
