Controversy and criticism
It has been described as ultra-conservative.[citation needed] In 2011, two of its journalists were detained for 5 hours by Russian authorities near Moscow when performing their own investigation into the Smolensk air crash.[7] Mgr Marcin Starnawski from the University of Silesia described Nasz Dziennik as one of the leading Polish newspapers "to disseminate a far-right discourse that combines a concept of ‘national identity’ with radical Catholicism".[8] Adam Easton from BBC wrote that the paper's founder, Fr Rydzyk, promotes "xenophobic, ultra-Catholic, and at times, anti-Semitic views".[9]
