Nasz Dziennik ("Our Daily") is a Polish daily newspaper, published in Warsaw since 1998 by Spes Ltd., with the circulation of about 150,000 as of 2007.[1] Alternate sources have listed its 1999 circulation at 250,000;[2] and its 1998 readership at 600,000 (according to Rzeczpospolita).[3] The Nasz Dziennik official website informs that the paper aims to examine issues relating to social, cultural, political and religious matters; and provide information "about which other media are silent" while promoting Christian values.[4] Its Editor-in-chief is Ewa Nowina Konopka, and one of the main sources of its revenue is advertising at both, local as well as national level.[5] Nasz Dziennik is part of the media empire founded by Fr Tadeusz Rydzyk, director of the Lux Veritatis Foundation which owns the TV channel Trwam and controversial Radio Maryja station.[6][7]

Controversy and criticism

It has been described as ultra-conservative.[citation needed] In 2011, two of its journalists were detained for 5 hours by Russian authorities near Moscow when performing their own investigation into the Smolensk air crash.[7] Mgr Marcin Starnawski from the University of Silesia described Nasz Dziennik as one of the leading Polish newspapers "to disseminate a far-right discourse that combines a concept of ‘national identity’ with radical Catholicism".[8] Adam Easton from BBC wrote that the paper's founder, Fr Rydzyk, promotes "xenophobic, ultra-Catholic, and at times, anti-Semitic views".[9]
