Belmont is a community in the municipality of Central Elgin, Elgin County,
Ontario ,Canada . It is located south-east of London and north-east of St. Thomas. Belmont has a population of approximately 1500 people.History
Belmont was first settled by Joshua S. Odell in 1832 and called Kettle Creek. [St. Thomas - Elgin Tourist Association. By this point, the settlement was called Belmont. The citizens requested that the Plymouth post office be renamed Belmont, and in 1854, that the Belmont post office be moved south into the community.
Belmont was incorporated as a Village in
1961 , and amalgamated with other area municipalities to formCentral Elgin in1998 .port
Belmont was home to the
Belmont Bombers , a junior hockey team that plays in theSouthern Ontario Junior Hockey League . The Bombers changed their name to theCentral Elgin Express prior to the 2006-07 season, as they are splitting their home games betweenPort Stanley, Ontario and Belmont.Infrastructure
Taking north of Belmont is located south of Westchester Bourne/CR-74, which provides access to
Highway 401 . Any road that turns left reaches SoutheastLondon .Belmont erected a new water tower as of 2004 in order to support their increasing population, and to support a proposed new sub-division.
