As of the 2007-08 school year, the district's four schools had an enrollment of 2,022 students and 118.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 17.1.[1]
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[3]

New Milford has had a very successful high school baseball team the past two years. In both 2004 and 2005 the team made it to the state semifinals. In 2004, the team made in the state finals but lost.
In the news
An 8th grade student brought a BB gun to school on March 14, 2007, police say. The student who had brought the gun to school gave the gun to a 6th grader to hide. After several kids reported to the vice principal that the kid had possession of the gun the school resource officer was notified. There was no threat and no plan to use the weapon. The two students were charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds. It was reported that legal actions have been taken and parents were notified.[5]
