Service at this station is limited, with four trains (two round trips) on weekends and holidays, and a total of 49 trains on weekdays. In contrast, Elizabeth station has 83 trains on weekends and holidays, and 117 on weekdays.
North Elizabeth station was built by NJ Transit in 1987, replacing a stop with low-level platforms.
