footnotes =Star Junction is an unincorporated community in Fayette County,
Pennsylvania . Star Junction is part of theFrazier School District .History
It was founded in 1893, when the Washington No. 2 Mine was opened by the Washington Coal and Coke Company. [cite web |title=Star Junction |url=http://www.coalcampusa.com/westpa/klondike/starjunction/starjunction.htm |accessdate=2008-06-18] It received its name because it was once the home of a
railroad depot. Star Junction was once acoal mining center, with 999beehive oven s for coke manufacture and a foundry. It was the site of labor unrest, including thewalkout of 4,500 miners in 1922. [cite news |title=Idle Miners Stone Maintenance Men |work=New York Times |date=1922-05-20 |url=http://query/nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9BOCEOD91531EF33A25753C2A9629C946395D6CF&oref=slogin |accessdate=2008-06-28] Although the company store and mines are long gone, the "patch" (the groups of company houses) still remain and house many residents. This area has made the "Determined Eligible List" of the Bureau of Historic Preservation, as an example of a typical coal town.
