Rancho Cucamonga High School is one of nine high schools in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.[2] RCHS is located in the city of Rancho Cucamonga in Southern California's Inland Empire. Rancho Cucamonga High School opened in August of 1992 with an enrollment of approximately 1,500 ninth to eleventh grade students.[citation needed] Today Rancho has an enrollment of approximately 3,200 students in the ninth through twelfth grades.

In 1996 and in 2003, Rancho Cucamonga High School was honored as one of California's Distinguished Schools. In 1997 and in 2003, Rancho Cucamonga High School was accredited by WASC for 6 years. Rancho Cucamonga High School was honored in 1998 as a State of California nominee as a national Blue Ribbon School. In 1999, RCHS joined the ranks of California's digital high schools. It serves students from Ruth Musser, and Etiwanda District schools (primarily Etiwanda Intermediate).

Athletics

Rancho Cucamonga High School competes in the Baseline League, including Glendora (added in 2010 and replaced Claremont), Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Upland, and Los Osos. The cross country team has made 4 state meet appearances in the last 6 years and finished 2nd at the C.I.F. Southern Section Division 1 Cross Country Championships in 2008. The Cougar track program has multiple state qualifiers every year for the last four years.

JROTC

RCHS has a AFJROTC unit residing, CA-941. The Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) is Lieutenant Colonel Donald Harvell and the Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI) is Senior Master Sergeant Kurt Lester. The RCHS AFJROTC won fourth place at the Fontana High School Drill meet.[when?] There were over 100 units of Marine Corps , Navy , Army and Air Force JROTC. As of the 2009-2010 school year, JROTC no longer exists within the school.
