Route description
NC 84 begins at an intersection with NC 16 (Providence Road) in Weddington, carrying the name Weddington Road. It carries two undivided lanes of traffic eastward, with a 35 miles per hour (56 km/h) speed limit before leaving town. The route passes by Weddington's Town Hall. The route then enters wooded land, serving mostly homes along its route with a few open fields along the way. The route then passes through Wesley Chapel, where it serves a shopping area (at the Waxhaw Indian Trail Road intersection) and passes between several residential subdivisions.
Continuing eastward, NC 75 passes through several stretches of farmland, continuing to serve several subdivisions as it encounters NC 75 (Waxhaw Highway) about one mile (1.6 km) from Monroe. The two routes overlap and become Franklin Street as they enter Monroe. At Charlotte Avenue, the routes spread onto a one-way pair consisting of Jefferson Street westbound and Franklin Street eastbound. Two blocks later, the two routes encounter NC 200 (North Hayne Street), where they both end.
NC 84 has never been widened or rerouted. However, with urban sprawl, NC 84 will likely be widened soon.[citation needed]
