History
It began life as the North Lindsey Technical College in 1953, and in 1964 the main building opened. In 1971 it became the North Lindsey College of Technology. This was when it was run by Lindsey Education Committee (based in Lincoln). In 1974 it was now administered by Humberside Education Committee in Beverley.
At this stage it had five departments:
- Business and Management Studies
- Construction
- Engineering
- General Studies
- Science and Metallurgy
- Mathematics and Computing
The library was built in 1978, and the refectory in 1980. In 1989 it changed to its current name, reflecting the fact that it was teaching a broader range of courses, since the Art and Design department opened in 1987. The college's logo was a framed 'S' made from 5 parallel lines, symbolic of the local steelworks.
In 2003 it began producing a newsletter called Clippings, which publishes around 2-3 times year.
In May 2010, an atrium was constructed at the front of the main entrance of the main building, and was opened in September 2010.[1]
During August 2010, the oldest building on the college campus was demolished.
