The village is located ninemile s (14.4km) southwest of Ashfordtown on the B2067Hamstreet toTenterden road. It is on the edge ofRomney Marsh , which the parish church of St Mary (with its tower dated1170 AD) overlooks from a hilltop. The site of the church was once the scene of abattle , being stormed by theDanes in the 10th century and it stands on the site of what seems to have been a small Saxon fort, the remains of its earthworks now largelyplough ed out of sight. The "World's Wonder"
