Miss United Kingdom is a title held by the highest ranked British contestant in the Miss World pageant. The winner competes at Miss International the following year under the Britain or United Kingdom banner.[1]

The current titleholder is Nicola Mimnagh of Scotland.[2]

History

The pageant came to include the whole of the United Kingdom from 1960 onwards. Traditionally there would be regional heats from the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom and the top x number of contestants from the regions would then compete for the UK title.

Until 1999, the winner of Miss United Kingdom would go on to represent the country in the Miss World competition. However, from 1999 onward, separate representatives from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete at Miss World,[3] and the highest ranked woman of the four constituent countries is named Miss United Kingdom.[1]
