On Line Opinion

On Line Opinion is an electronic opinion journal, founded in 1999 by political commentator and strategist Graham Edward Young, a former president of the Queensland branch of the Liberal Party of Australia, and edited by Susan Prior. OLO is based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and has an estimated 145,000 readers a month[1][verification needed] and is the largest Australian political site.[2][verification needed]

It publishes several articles every weekday on a wide range of topics of national and international interest[citation needed], including articles on a different featured topic each month.

On Line Opinion has been set up as a chamber for ideas and debate and includes a forum section where readers can discuss the articles with the author and other readers.

The journal is not-for-profit and is owned by National Forum Ltd, which operates sister projects on the same website including The Domain, which carries live feeds from Australia’s most widely read and influential political web logs, Ozelections, What the people want, Petitions National Forum and the iParliament site.

Controversy

In late 2011, On Line Opinion published an article titled "Dismantling a homosexual marriage myth" by Bill Muehlenberg,[3] the Secretary of the Family Association of Victoria. Young stated in a blog post that On Line Opinion was "under attack from a number of gay activists" as a result of the decision to publish the piece.[4] According to a follow-up article by Young: "the piece was found to be objectionable by an employee at IBM, another in the advertising agency that places the ads for IBM, and that as a result ANZ also withdrew their advertising".[5]
