Monte Vista's women's water polo team won North Coast Section (NCS) titles in 2003, 2004 and 2006 before claiming this year's title with an 11-5 victory over Miramonte at the Soda Aquatic Center at Campolindo High School.
Monte Vista's Track and Field Team has done well. It has broken a number of school records in the past 2 years. They were almost undefeated in EBAL dual meets losing only to cross-town rival San Ramon Valley High School. The school continues to do well in track and field, bringing in new talent from local middle schools each year.
Monte Vista's women's tennis team has also done well. In the Women's 2005 year, the team won in the EBAL and placed second at NCS, losing their match to their biggest tennis rival, Foothill High School[disambiguation needed ]. Mia Giovinetti advanced to the finals of the individual EBAL tournament, and in doubles the freshman duo Sheena Chaudhuri and Elena Cadet won the doubles tournament of the EBAL finals. The MV tennis team also placed an overall fifth out of over 60 schools from the state of California at the annual Peach Tree Tournament in Fresno.
Monte Vista's men's tennis team has done well the last couple of years. In 2003, the men's tennis team won the NCS team title. Then in 2004, Mike Starr won the NCS singles title, and won the EBAl singles title in each consecutive year. Then in 2006, the doubles pair of Tim Latin and Ramsey Lemaich won the NCS doubles title. Then they went without an NCS team title for 5 years, until 2008, where they beat Alameda to win the NCS team title. In individuals, Shaun Chaudhuri won the EBAL singles tournament and reached the NCS semis as a freshman. Shane Swinnerton and James Moody won the doubles EBAL tournament. After winning the NCS team title, they went to the CIF tournament and for the first time ever, they got the finals of the CIF team tournament. In 2009, the men's team had a three way tie for first place in the California high school classic tournament which had 60 high schools from all over Northern California. Later in the year, some retard won the EBAL singles tournament, and Brendan Wee and Chris Meyer won the EBAL doubles title. Chris' brother, Mark Meyer, also plays tennis and won the 2010 singles EBAL tournament. Then Shaun Chaudhuri brought back Monte Vista its first NCS singles title since 2004. Also, in 2009, the team got 2nd at NCS team tournament, and headed to CIF for the second consecutive year.
Monte Vista's women's golf team has also been an important force. Being the first public school to win back to back titles (2005 & 2006) in the East Bay Athletic League, North Coast Sections, and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Northern California, the girls of the Monte Vista High School golf team are one of the best teams in the state[citation needed]. Traveling to Southern California to represent Northern California, the girls golf team was led by four strong members shooting all under scores of 80.
Monte Vista's Men's Lacrosse team have been NCS and EBAL champions in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2011. They traveled to Los Angeles and San Diego for the First Four tournament in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 their record was 18-1, losing only to La Costa Canyon, the back to back Southern California Section Champion, in the First Four. Ranked by LaxPower as #1 in California, and a National Ranking of 37th[citation needed]. The team has had 4 All-Americans: Tyler Westfall (2005), Ryan Westfall (2006), Kyle Donovan (2007), and Dylan Westfall (2008). In 2011 the Monte Vista Mustangs defeated De La Salle in the NCS championship with a score of 10-7. Led by head coach Mike Lambrecht and All-Americans Casey Hock and Jarret Hassfeld the Mustangs outplayed DLS and by the 4th quarter MV led by a margin of 8 goals(10-2). Late in the 4th DLS rallied a five goal streak but were stopped short by the Monte Vista defense led by goalie Gus Gradinger.
Monte Vista's Women's Lacrosse team were the EBAL and NCS champions in 2009, losing only to St. Ignatius and La Costa Canyon and Torrey Pines of San Diego. The Mustangs defeated California High School in the NCS title game. This team was led by seniors Jillian Bush, Aimee Dewan, Megan Robinson and Melissa Trisko, and junior Lauren Goerz. In 2008 the Mustangs had an average season, but surprisingly made it to the NCS finals, losing to Amador Valley High of Pleasanton. The Mustangs went undefeated in 2010, winning EBAL and NCS.
In 2006, the Monte Vista Men's Soccer team won NCS for the first time in school history. The team was led by goalkeeper B.J. Burns, and 8 other All-League starters. They defeated Livermore, De La Salle, and Richmond in the playoffs en route to their first Section championship ever. In addition to winning NCS, they were also champions of the East Bay Athletic League, one of the best leagues in the country. In 2007, the Men's team repeated as both EBAL and NCS Champions. In 2007, the Mustangs became back to back NCS and EBAL champs with a perfect 19-0-7 record. With a first round bye, they beat Richmond, Washington and then California High in the NCS final.
Monte Vista has also had years of successful seasons in football. In the 2008 season Monte Vista finished with a 8-3 record, losing to De La Salle and also to San Ramon Valley twice. However, in 2009 and 2010, Monte Vista beat San Ramon 42-7 and then in 2010 with a score of 38-31

Controversy
In 2007, after a parent complaint, a district internal and an outside audit found that funds raised by graduating classes were used for school improvement projects by administrators. No misappropriation of funds was found or alleged; all funds were used for the school. Aministrators produced student body minutes for items approved by the students and from previous class officers. The Contra Costa times printed a retraction and correction August 6, 2010 for previous misstatements by the newspaper suggesting misappropriation by administrators.[7]
