Trochu (pronEng|ˈtroʊʃuː) is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located km to mi|15|abbr=yes|wiki=yes north of Three Hills at the junction of Highway 21 and Highway 585, in Kneehill County.

The town is named for Armand Trochu, the settler who founded the "St. Anne Ranch Trading Company" on the present site of the town in 1903. [ [http://www.town.trochu.ab.ca/town/history.php Town of Trochu] —Trochu history]

Demographics

In 2001, the town had a population of 1,033. Amenities

Amenities include an arena, a curling rink, several restaurants (including Greek, Chinese, and western cuisine), a youth centre, a seniors' drop-in, a lodge and extended care facility (formerly the Trochu Hospital), several farm machinery dealers, an outdoor swimming pool, a campground and ball diamonds, and a local museum.

Also located nearby is St. Ann's Ranch [ [http://www.stannranch.com/ St. Ann's Ranch] ] , a bed and breakfast on a historical site, TL Bar Ranch, and the Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park.

Economy

The main industry is agriculture, though the oil and gas industry is bringing more and more revenue into the area.

Trochu is home to an arboretum [ [http://tis.gov.ab.ca/public/item/arboretum_at_trochu_the.htm Alberta Economic Development] —The Arboretum at Trochu] , which is home to over 1000 trees and shrubs of over 100 species, as well as various native and non-native flowering plant species, and showy floral displays. It is a popular spot for weddings, photo shoots, and group tours.
