WestDowningtown High School is a secondary school located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania and Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania. Population growth in the burgeoning Downingtown Area School District forced the original Downingtown High School to split into two campuses: Downingtown High School East Campus and Downingtown High School West Campus. While still legally considered one school, the two campuses (usually referred to simply as "East" or "West") are generally regarded as separate entities. While Downingtown West is located in the original high school's building within Downingtown, Downingtown East is actually located in Lionville, the northern side of Exton, Pennsylvania.
The mascot for Downingtown East is the cougar, for Downingtown West, the whippet. Both schools' colors are blue and gold, a similarity that recalls that the two campuses were once one school. A healthy rivalry exists between Downingtown East and West. Downingtown High School is well-known for having the nation's oldest alumni association.
This high school also contains many clubs, from marching band to the Ski Club. The Student Council, which forms many committees and community service programs throughout the year. Both schools have boy's lacrosse programs, with East ranked 5th in the 2007 EPSLA preaseason poll, and West ranked 14th in the 2007 EPSLA preseason poll. Downingtown East won the Keystone Cup in 2007, making them State Champions. Downingtown West's Girls Soccer team has won both the 2004 and 2006 State Championships. West also won girls soccer states in the 2009 season. Downingtown West's Boys Soccer team won the State Championship in 2008. Downingtown West's Girls Swim Team, led by coaches Brian Brucker and Eric Snook, has been undefeated in their regular season meets from the 2007-2008 season through the 2009-2010 season. Both schools also have FBLA clubs (Future Business Leaders of America) which had nine students qualify for the national competition in 2009. The combined school's marching band has participated in The Tournament of Roses Parade, The Citrus Bowl Parade & The Indy 500 Parade. In 2011, the band performed in The Tournament of Roses Parade for the second time.
