Sapphire is a saturated shade of blue, referring to the gem of the same name. Sapphire gems are most commonly found in a range of blue shades. Other names for the color sapphire are blue sapphire or sapphire blue.

The first recorded use of sapphire as a color name in English was in 1430.[2]
