The University of Cape Coast[1] is unisex university in Ghana. It is located in Cape Coast the capital of the Central region of the country. It is one of the rare sea-front universities in the world. The university was established in 1962 out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education. Over the years the university has diversified if programmes of study from mainly a teacher training institution to a world-class university offering courses that lead to the award of degrees in BA, B.Com, B.Ed, B.Sc, MA, MBA, M.Ed, M.Sc, M.Phil, MBChB, and PhD.
The Department of Optometry
The department was established in 2002 to teach courses that would lead to the award of the Doctor of Optometry (O.D) degree after a six year period. It was the first time an institution had been setup in Ghana to offer the O.D degree. The department is hosted at the Faculty of Physical Sciences.
At the start of programme, five students made up the first year class and they graduated in the year 2008.
