"One Day Like This" is the second single from Elbow's fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid, released on 2 June 2008[1] on two 7" vinyl records and one CD single. "One Day Like This" debuted at #39 in the UK Singles Chart on 8 June 2008, marking Elbow's seventh UK Top 40 single. After 14 weeks, the single finally peaked at #35 on 14 September 2008. Although it peaked considerably lower than its predecessor "Grounds for Divorce" (which peaked at #19), the band's increasing popularity in the UK after winning their 2009 BRIT Award for Best British band meant that "One Day Like This" has spent more weeks in the UK Top 100 than any of Elbow's other singles, spending 35 weeks there; unlike its predecessor, which spent 11 weeks in the UK Top 100. The song peaked at #35 again on 22 February 2009 and was still on the charts at #95 as of 21 June 2009. On 21 May 2009, the song won the Ivor Novello award for Best Song. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 41 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".[2]

Music video

The promotional video for the song features a man approaching a busy road junction, holding a red sign in the shape of a pointing arrow, containing the words "Condos - Now Selling". He stands at the junction, and turns the sign around many times, pointing it in all directions, including flipping it in the air and spinning it on his head, whilst the motorists, pedestrians and skateboarders pass by, presumably all the more confused as to where the Condos are in fact being sold.
