Stromer, 1917Onchopristis was a genus of giant sawfish that lived in the Upper Cretaceous in or near North Africa. It had a long hard shovel-shaped snout lined on both sides with hooked, barbed teeth.
Popular culture
In the first episode of Planet Dinosaur, Onchopristis is depicted being anadromous, in that it lived in the sea and swam up rivers to breed like modern salmon. This however would make it vulnerable to the fish-eating Spinosaurus.
